Within the scope of the Industrial Symbiosis in İzmir Region Project, synergy workshops were held on 5-6 July 2022 in Wyndham Grand İzmir Özdilek Hotel towards the aim of determining possible synergy relations between companies, ensuring resource efficiency, expanding sustainable production practices and creating new inter-sectoral employment opportunities.

Synergy workshops, as one of the most important steps in the creation and development of İzmir-specific industrial symbiosis program, brought together the companies operating in İzmir province and laid the groundwork for realizing resource efficiency by detecting the existing and needed resources and by converting wastes into resources.

The approach of the resources seen as waste within an enterprise being considered as a source of raw materials by other enterprises offered all businesses with opportunities to improve their environmental performance and to obtain economic gains. During the synergy workshops, the issue of more innovative and sustainable resource use was emphasized.

In addition, the workshops provided the companies with the opportunity to reduce the costs of alternative raw material use, save waste costs, and step into Green Consensus and carbon border adjustment practices.

A total of 113 people from 48 different institutions physically participated in İzmir Industrial Symbiosis Synergy Workshops. At the end of the workshops, 309 different resources and 345 possible synergies were detected.
